As a Plymouth vacation-rental host, I am often asked where visitors should eat. My answer depends less on which restaurant is "best" and more on the experience someone wants.
Salt: My Choice for Food and Harbor Views
Salt Raw Bar + Fine Cuisine is one of my favorites for the combination of excellent food and views of Plymouth Harbor.
It feels special without being overly formal, making it a wonderful choice for a date night or memorable vacation dinner. If the quality of the food is just as important to you as being near the water, Salt would be high on my list.
I recommend it for: Excellent food, cocktails and harbor views.
71° West: Atmosphere and Panoramic Views
71° West Atlantic Steakhouse is my recommendation when atmosphere and views are the priority.
Its elevated location provides expansive views over Plymouth Harbor, while the modern dining room and rooftop area give it a more upscale, energetic feeling. It is especially enjoyable around sunset or when celebrating a special occasion.
I recommend it for: Atmosphere, steaks, cocktails and some of Plymouth's best elevated harbor views.
East Bay Grille: The Classic Plymouth Waterfront Experience
East Bay Grille is the restaurant I would recommend to a first-time visitor who wants the full Plymouth waterfront experience.
You are directly on the harbor, surrounded by boats, water and the energy of Town Wharf. The atmosphere feels unmistakably like a New England vacation, particularly when you can sit outside.
It may not be the quietest option during the summer, but that liveliness is part of the experience.
I recommend it for: First-time visitors, outdoor dining and the classic Plymouth Harbor atmosphere.
Anna's Harborside Grille: Oysters and Greek Food on the Harbor
Anna's Harborside Grille is a favorite for buck-a-shuck oysters, Greek food and waterfront dining.
The combination of harbor views, fresh oysters and Greek and Mediterranean dishes makes Anna's different from Plymouth's more traditional seafood restaurants. On a beautiful afternoon, it is an excellent place to relax over oysters and drinks.
Buck-a-shuck schedules can change seasonally, so check the current days and hours before visiting.
I recommend it for: Dollar oysters, Greek food and a relaxed afternoon near the harbor.
Rye Tavern: A Quaint Escape From the Waterfront
Rye Tavern is where I would send someone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Plymouth.
Located in a historic 1700s tavern on Old Sandwich Road, it feels cozy, quaint and removed from the busy waterfront. Its gardens and wooded surroundings create an entirely different Plymouth dining experience.
It is especially appealing when you want a peaceful dinner or have already spent several days exploring downtown.
I recommend it for: Historic charm, a quieter evening and dining away from the waterfront crowds.
Cork + Table: The High-End Food Experience
Cork + Table would be my choice when the food experience matters more than having a view.
It does not overlook the harbor, but what it lacks in scenery it makes up for with an intimate atmosphere, personal service, excellent wine and carefully prepared food. It is a small restaurant, so reservations are highly recommended.
This is where I would send someone looking for a sophisticated dinner rather than a traditional tourist-oriented waterfront experience.
I recommend it for: High-end food, wine, date night and an intimate dining experience.
